Seed books - FIRST DAY!

Ari is writing about his pets.

In my seed book I glued in a pictured of a lady who had a wedding dress on because my cousin got married on Saturday afternoon. Another thing I glued in was half a monarch butterfly that my cat caught in the garden. By Shanelle.

Robyn has a page full of duathlon photos!
I have some photos of my other animals in my seed book. I have a photo of me as a baby sitting outside reaching out for the camera. My seed book has a fern and an old ten cent in my seed book. By Noah C

Michaela has a page full of her in her dancing outfits.

Today I didn't bring my seed book because my picture of Tilung is still drying out because we used really runny glue. I still have more stuff to put in like another photo of Mr Snuffles and lots of other stuff and I couldn't put it in because of the glue on the other page. By Mitchell

How do people in other countries live?

Today in we looked at photo's of other people in other countries and how they live.
We were looking at a family from England.  It was interesting to see the family learnt how to play music and they could sail a yatch.

Our family was from Thailand.  They had some belongings but not as many as our family does.

This family have a very few items.  The biggest things that they have are the three bags of rice.

The family that we looked at have a lot of children and heaps of animals.  They have more people than they have things.

Our family live in Russia.  It is very cold there and they wear these fluffy hats and thick coats.  They also had a wooden T.V.

what have we been up to?

Today we decided to share some of our personal writing.

On Saturday my sister was dropped off home by her friend Claire.  My friend Noah was in the car.  I asked mum if Noah could stay the night.  Mum sorted it out with Noah's dad! The next day mum took us to Chipmunks.  We were there for two hours and then spent an hour at the swimming pools.

Conserving Water

Over the past few weeks Room 9 have been talking about ways the weather has been affecting people.  Recently we talked about how the farmers were worried because it meant that their livestock were going hungry as the grass isn't growing in this hot weather.
This week Mrs Rodgers got us thinking about how we can conserve water at our house.  It got us thinking about all of the things that we can do to stop water being wasted down the drain.
  •  recycle water - cool water that the veges were boiled in and use it to water the garden
  •  turn the tap off while brushing teeth
  •  have a sink with water in it for washing hands in
  •  only water the vegetables that are new in the garden
  •  old drink bottle water could be used for the pot plants or used for the animals
What other ways have your family thought about to save water in your house?  We would love to hear about them :) send us a comment!

Reading Around the Islands!

In class we have been looking at 'our place'.  This week for reading we have been finding out about what other people do at their place!

In Samoa they build houses out of the natural wood - coconut palms and they have to weave approximately 90 % of the fern fornds in an hour!

The suns groups read a book about a little boy from Tonga making a broom out of coconut fronds.  It looked different because all of it was brown.  The broom that he already had was too big and too heavy.

In Samoa they call pineapple pies paifala. In Tonga they use coconut fronds to make brooms.

I learnt that Samoan people don't have normal houses like us in New Zealand.  They have houses called fales.

In Samoa they have leaves for rooves and they have different types of houses called fales.

Fale's are made out of palm trees and palm leaves.  In Tonga they make palm leaves into brooms.

What a day!

Thank you to all of families who supported Te Tipunga's swimming demonstration today.  Room 9 had a fantastic time showing you all of the wonderful skills they have been learning this year.  Things we liked about our day were:

  •  the whole team being together
  • having parents and family watching us
  • sharing our skills
  •  all participating in the event
Also a big thank you to our great photographer who took these wonderful photos.
